Television Production Technician II – Department of Communications, MCPS TV, 8hrs, Ad Closes 8/28/20
The Television Technician II, under general direction, performs installation, repair, operational checkout and monitoring for all digital and analog multimedia technology in MCPS TV at schools when needed. Must have strong working knowledge of basic and advanced digital video technology. The successful candidate will perform basic engineering functions for studio and remote TV productions. Must be proficient in computer networking and troubleshooting, specifically as it applies to a modern digital multimedia video facility, including a working knowledge of Apple editing work stations and laptop computers. Must have a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, including Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of TV and multimedia operations and engineering. Considerable knowledge of properties, characteristics, and operation of audio and video studio and remote equipment. Working knowledge of RF and cable TV theory. Support of TV productions, to include camera shading, operation of character generator, recording of video and audio, closed captioning technical details, last-minute technical troubleshooting, etc. Ability to assist in the installation and implementation of newly purchased digital multimedia equipment and software. Knowledge of computer principles including IT technology, networking, ethernet and fiber-optic technology and transmission systems. Knowledge of digital non-linear editing systems, file servers, storage area networks and digital multimedia/video formats. Administration and troubleshooting of network architecture, involving both copper and fiber-optic connectivity, in an Apple Mac OS production environment consisting of several central servers and multiple individual workstations. Administration of digital rights management and complex permission protocols. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Skilled in researching, recommending, and writing specifications for audio, video, test, and other equipment for purchase consideration. Strong working knowledge of FileMaker Pro, and databases in general. The successful candidate will be the primary Master Control operator, to include the encoding of new programs, processing of new programs for playback on MCPS-TV cable channels and Web site, sending electronic files to clients and departments, scheduling off-air recordings as required. Will provide technical support for Board of Education meetings and other MCPS-TV related auditorium and remote events. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS). IT and Networking Administers and troubleshoot network architecture in an Apple Mac OS X production environment, consisting of several central servers and multiple individual workstations. Involves both copper and fiber optic connectivity. Administration of digital rights management and complex permissions protocols; First-line troubleshooting and resolution of network and other issues within the ITV workgroup environment, including Mac and PC platforms;Establish and maintain seamless network connectivity between Windows and Mac OS X workgroup environments;Maintains and operate video-over-IP connectivity with school-based TV studios; Operates and supports TV productions to include camera shading, operation of character generator and VTRs, closed captioning technical details, audio operations, last-minute technical troubleshooting, etc.Operates Master Control during absence of regular operator; performs dubs, DVD recordings and off-air recordings as required; Technical support of graduation recordings, BOE meetings and ITV-related Auditorium events; Maintains and operates digital audio recording technology used for foreign-language translation events such as Budget Presentation and Community Forums.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
Associate¿s degree required. Bachelor¿s degree preferred. Coursework in electrical or electronic engineering preferred. Considerable multimedia and engineering experience in a government or commercial TV production facility required. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to an Associate¿s degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
