Are you passionate about creating shareable, creative and engaging video?

WUSA9 is looking for a dynamic, experienced investigative storyteller to join the VERIFY team with the mission to educate the audience and debunk false information. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate strong research skills, know the latest investigative techniques and have a passion for seeking the truth. In this role, you will seek out original documents, video and photos as well as find and interview multiple vetted experts to help our audience understand what’s true and what’s simply misinformation. In this role, you will be expected manage long and short-term projects simultaneously. That includes pitching enterprise investigative ideas, writing and researching your stories for broadcast and digital as well as collaborating with a larger team during major events such as breaking news and political coverage.


In this role you will:

  • Enterprise and develop investigative stories under the VERIFY brand
  • Dig into complex and important issues.
  • Deliver clear, concise reporting during live breaking news events
  • Develop reliable sources and contacts in general and specialized areas of interest.
  • Use open records laws and computer assisted reporting skills to find information and data that lend depth and context to your stories.
  • Write in an exciting, captivating and authentic manner for multiple platforms.
  • Help with production ideas for data content in on-air and online stories
  • Develop original content through social listening and independent sources.
  • Interview news subjects and research for facts and credibility.
  • Produce investigations that are unique and captivating.
  • Enterprise investigative stories.
  • Write for the web, including attaching images and streaming video.
  • Work as a problem-solver
  • Must be deadline minded



  • 5+ years of experience preferred
  • Experience with FOIA process and LexisNexis
  • Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
  • A portfolio with examples of strong investigative reporting, breaking news coverage, enterprise reporting and examples of interviews with political figures
  • Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook
  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius and Axis graphics a plus
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
  • Strong communication skills (written/oral) for on-air delivery
  • Proven ability to work under pressure while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to interact productively & positively within different environments
  • Applicable knowledge of multiplatform news gathering tools and resources including digital media
  • Experienced team player with excellent communication skills
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours as needed for news coverage, including nights and weekends
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, graphic design or similar field
