Along with an ambitious virtual showcase of world cinema, the Vancouver International Film Festival is committed to offering a complete online film festival experience and will feature pre-recorded film introductions, panel discussions and interviews. Reporting to the Lead Festival Technician, and working closely with the Program Logistic Manager the Digital Events Coordinator will work on the development and operation of the technical preparation and execution of the festival’s pre-recorded video content.

Overall responsibility:

The Digital Events Coordinator is responsible for videography and editing of pre-recorded content, while providing logistical support for guests, curators and production staff. The role also includes assisting technicians in the production of live video streaming content via digital platforms and managing digital video data. Content includes but is not exclusive to live and pre-recorded video interviews, panel discussions and introductions, both with in-person and remote guests in a socially distanced environment. Following the schedule created by the Program Logistic Manager, they will operate the technical setup developed by the Lead Festival Technician.


  • Experience working on deadline-driven projects an asset
  • Previous experience with audio/video production/editing and management required
  • A strong knowledge of Adobe Photoshop a plus
  • Familiarity with digital productivity tools: Asana, Slack, Dropbox, Office 360, Zoom an asset
  • A strong communicator, and receptive to feedback and direction
  • Able to work on multiple simultaneous tasks within a fast paced environment and meet tight deadlines
  • Able to work under pressure, independently with minimal supervision and in collaboration with VIFF team
  • Able to work flexible hours remotely as required, including some evenings and weekends


  • Liaise with Program Logistic Manager and Lead Festival Technician on production schedules and booking requests for all recordings and tests
  • Prepare and test all VIFF production equipment and tools including digital video cameras, audio recording devices and lighting equipment based on the recommendations of the Technical Director to ensure all aspects are in working order
  • Collect, prepare, and test all audio-visual content (graphics, video clips, etc) to be shown during the recordings


  • Collaborate closely with the technical team, curators and production staff interdepartmentally
  • Facilitate technical tests for digital events
  • Videography of live conversations as outlined in run-of-show
  • Execute each live stream and pre-taped event as outlined in run-of-show
  • Ensure a consistent audio and video quality defined by the Lead Festival Technician
  • Provide logistical support for guests, curators and production staff

Post recordings:

  • Editing of all footage recorded
  • Maintain the technical recording station, making sure it is ready for the next recording
  • Managing a digital workflow for all files with video editor and producers
  • Ensure all files are properly archived in compliance with the Lead Festival Technician’s requirements
  • Contribute to an updated log of recordings with notes and editing considerations
  • Report issues and suggest process improvements to the Lead Festival Technician

Candidate profile and skills:

  • Relevant audio-visual and videography training and experience
  • Foundational understanding of lighting, audio devices and video cameras
  • Ability to manage priorities and operate live event configurations
  • General knowledge of streaming systems and technologies
  • Knowledge of the live video streaming software Wirecast
  • Knowledge of the Zoom videoconference software
  • A strong knowledge of Adobe Premiere
