Instructor – Film Production Instructor, Part-Time

Trebas Institute seeks an experienced Part-Time Instructor with appropriate academic qualifications to join our team to teach in the Film & TV Production/Post-Production department. Our Film School courses encompass a variety of skills and knowledge, including business and design skills, scriptwriting, cinematography, editing and production management. The successful candidate will step into an existing curriculum and help deliver high-quality teaching in the aspects of Film Production.

Responsibilities & Duties

The successful candidate will teach across all levels in the diploma program. Classes are project-focused in a hands-on environment, and should focus on guiding students towards achieving their project goals and specified educational outcomes.

The ideal candidate is also an experienced professional in the Film industry, maintaining their own creative practice both on and off campus.

Maintenance of industry connections and participation in industry or community events is also required.

Job responsibilities and expectations include:

  • Oversee and supervise the production of student short film projects
  • Participate in advising and mentoring students
  • Develop teaching aids such as instructional software, multimedia visual aids, or study materials based on approved textbooks and course materials
  • A focus on employability, achievement, and welfare of a diverse student population throughout their studies
  • Provide teaching to students using lectures, labs and demonstrations
  • Create, administer and mark tests/assignments in order to evaluate students’ progress
  • Ability to communicate well
  • Understanding of the Film industry a must
  • Maintenance of skills & knowledge, e.g. professional teaching in-services, participation in film-related conferences, or appropriate professional certifications
  • Administration of learning environment, including accurate and timely recording of attendance, grades, and feedback, and other associated duties
  • Maintain inventories of materials, equipment and products necessary for production
  • Other duties as assigned by the Department Head and/or the Campus Director

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree required in Film and Video Production & Post-Production
  • Formal education and training in NARRATIVE Film Production and 5+ years of professional experience as a professional filmmaker preferred
  • Understanding of Screenplay Structure and Narrative Story Design
  • Some Higher Education teaching experience in Film and/or the Fine Arts (preferred)
  • Professional credits on IMDB.com
  • Strong portfolio of short films and/or feature films with links to the portfolio works
  • Proficiency with the internet and social media
  • Proficiency with videoconferencing software
  • Ability and flexibility to work productively with a diverse population and rolling admissions
  • Self-motivated, can-do attitude
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service when dealing with students.
  • Reliable, punctual, and dependable when meeting with students

Additional Experience, Qualities & Abilities

  • Teaching, training, and educational background/experience preferred
  • Ability to foster a collaborative and cooperative environment among students and faculty
  • Willingness to adapt to changing technologies & educational practices
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work independently and also with a creative team of peers
