Our videos have received millions of views on YouTube, Facebook and other platforms, and our weekly television program airs on two Bay Area TV stations.

Position Overview

The Commonwealth Club is a unique organization, and working here is unlike any other job. Our video producer position works as an integral part of the Club’s AV department, reporting to the director of audio and video services, and is responsible for all video services at the organization. The video producer works closely with the director of audio and video services to satisfy the video needs for live programs held at The Commonwealth Club. This includes Club-produced events at its headquarters location in downtown San Francisco, and for its off-site events throughout the Bay Area, as well as for private events held at the Club as needed. A majority of the video content produced is for consumption on the Club’s YouTube channel, but we also deliver for television and other social media outlets. Much of the Club’s programming takes place between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.; this position requires a flexible work schedule that includes a later workday start time shifted toward evening production. You will be an integral part of a small but dynamic AV team, following established standards but also implementing new processes that ensure its smooth operation. The ideal candidate has the desire and past experience to run a production and post-production infrastructure with little to no oversight or instruction. You have a passion for storytelling and are excited about collaborating across various teams to create compelling visual content.

Essential Job Functions

  • Setup and breakdown of video equipment for scheduled events
  • Video recording of Club programs and private events as scheduled
  • Create, post and manage video podcasts to the Club website
  • Ensure deliverables to our television partners are met on-time and to spec
  • Maintain daily edit schedules
  • Source and schedule additional videographers as needed
  • Edit and deliver both long-form and short-form feature content
  • Ensure the standardization of post-production processes across ingest, edit and delivery
  • Work with the IT department to maintain and troubleshoot post-production editing systems
  • Work with the Club’s Web team to come up with different and interesting ways to leverage the visual assets created
  • Oversee the backing up, archiving, cataloging, restoring, maintaining and exporting of all video media assets
  • Oversee technical and software updates
  • Regularly suggest and implement improvements to processes
  • Source and manage new software and technological solutions
  • Document video department processes and protocols
  • Occasional email or verbal interaction with Club members or content viewers around playback, download and consumption of Club’s video content

Skills and Experience

  • Expert in Adobe editing with Premiere and knowledge of Adobe Suite (After Effects, Photoshop)
  • Advanced experience in video recording live events
  • Advanced knowledge of camera setup, functions and troubleshooting
  • Experience with multi-camera shooting and editing
  • A working knowledge and experience across every part of the video production and post-production process
  • Experience with live streaming to social media platforms (YouTube, Facebook, Periscope)
  • Proficient with Microsoft and Google Suite software (Google Sheets & Docs, MS Word & Excel)
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Ability to work well cross-functionally and collaboratively as a team player and as a self-starter; strong facilitator to help other team members complete the task at hand and work together
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to represent the Club professionally with colleagues, Club speakers, private event customers and Club members
  • Some experience with large scale facility IT/AV management systems (Crestron, Dante, Matrox) desired
  • Creative video editing and direction; provide examples or links to past stylized in-house or corporate video deliverables
  • 15 percent local travel; the ability to work occasional weekends and travel around the Bay Area to off-site events
