Reporting to the Audience Development Manager, this role helps execute strategies designed to create deeper engagement and loyalty with KQED’s audiences.

Essential Functions:

  • Daily scheduling/posting on social media platforms.
  • Create copy and graphics for social media as needed.
  • Build and manage healthy online communities on KQED’s main social media platforms, including establishing clear guidelines for participation and standards for moderation.
  • Collaborate daily with the Social Media & Digital Audiences Associate to build and execute social media campaigns and posts that drive conversation and engagement.
  • Contributes ideas regularly about how to create better relationships with our audience members via social media tools and tactics.
  • With the Audience Development Manager, create benchmarks and regular reporting that indicate the overall health and sentiment of our growing social communities.
  • Works with the Audience Development Manager to cultivate and evolve the KQED Insiders program via online community engagement.
  • Working with our editorial and events team to create consistent promotion and engagement with virtual and in-person events.
  • Collaborates with other stakeholders in the organization to help execute and support content and journalistic initiatives, as prioritized by the Audience Development Manager and Executive Director, Brand and Audience Development.

Other Job Functions:

  • Some weekend, night and offsite work may be required occasionally. Additional marketing and communications efforts as needed.

Knowledge/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 2-3 years of professional experience managing or contributing to brand social media accounts.
  • Some experience with crisis communications.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, specifically with an eye for detail, proofreading and copyediting.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of paid social media and SEO tools and best practices
  • Basic knowledge of Photoshop and social media graphic editing tools (e.g. Canva)
  • Have experience with workflow apps and software such as Google Docs, Asana, AirTable and/or Slack
  • Have a deep interest in and appreciation for the public media mission.

Knowledge/Experience Desired:

  • A sharp eye for design and aesthetics
  • Curiosity about audience behavior and tendencies across media types and platforms
  • Operate from a place of empathy and compassion for audience members, fans and consumers
  • Interest in figuring out how marketing and social tactics from the for-profit world can work within the nonprofit framework
  • Have mad love for the Bay!
