OVERVIEW:

The California Film Institute (CFI) is seeking a Membership Manager to oversee and cultivate a vibrant membership program and supervise one Membership Associate. Activities associated with this role include managing special initiatives and campaigns to retain and generate CFI members, managing member benefits and services, actively participating in and supporting CFI’s film festivals and year-round theater and education programming and encouraging member loyalty and upgraded levels of engagement. The Membership Manager must be a skilled communicator with the ability to provide outstanding customer service and project a professional company image through on-stage, in-person and phone interaction.

CFI celebrates film as art and education by presenting the acclaimed Mill Valley Film Festival and DocLands Documentary Film Festival, exhibiting independent and international films, documentaries, and classic films year- round at the stately Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center and offering year-round education programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement programs and campaigns to attract and retain CFI members.

  • Create and maintain positive relationships with existing and prospective members.

  • Interface with the membership community directly, providing responsive customer service and proactive stewardship of members’ relationships with CFI.

  • Review and manage membership levels and benefits to meet benchmarks of best practices for cultural and arts organizations.

  • Design and manage programs, incentives and activities to recognize and incentivize member loyalty and upgraded levels of membership.

  • Work with senior leadership to coordinate membership levels communications and benefit fulfillment.

  • Lead and create the Membership Acquisition Campaign, a 3-month project for a campaign that runs from July-October. This requires managing and overseeing the project from design to mailing, data analysis, writing/editing content, webpage design, online purchasing navigations and creative sales strategies.

  • Work with the Membership Associate and other staff to input and respond to all membership inquiries in a timely manner.

  • Along with the Membership Associate, oversee the theater on-site Membership Sales Assistant and Membership Sales Volunteer Ambassadors with ongoing scheduling and training.

  • Work with the Marketing Department on the planning and production of printed and digital materials, social media and other communications and marketing associated with membership.

  • Provide detailed weekly membership reports to Development Director.

  • Process and maintain membership data in CFI ticketing and fundraising management systems.

  • Prepare and manage quarterly campaigns to maximize retention and growth of membership base.

  • Process new and renewal applications of membership in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Attend events to promote membership programs.

  • Edit and review all renewal emails and member communications created by the Membership Associate.

  • Work closely with operations staff for the Mill Valley film Festival to ensure ember experience standards are met and festival priority benefits are received.

  • Work closely with Box Office Management to fulfill ticketing requests and benefits during both the Mill Valley Film Festival and the DocLands Film Festival.

  • Ensure members are receiving benefits at the Christopher B Smith Rafael Film Center and that Membership has a strong physical sales presence at the center year-round.

  • Coordinate at least 16 member film screenings per year alongside the programming and marketing departments.

  • Manage operations and RSVP collection during film screenings alongside the Donor and AMPAS departments.

  • Be comfortable making introductions onstage at film screenings and representing CFI as a community-funded arts organization.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Superior written and oral communication and organization skills.

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills to communicate with members.

  • Ability to demonstrate discretion and consistent, professional behavior when working with celebrity, community and industry leaders.

  • Team player that motivates and educates other team members.

  • Experience with program and special event coordination preferred.

  • Ability to quickly and efficiently solve problems.

  • Able to work occasional evenings, weekends and holidays.

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Three years prior experience in a similar role.

  • Experience leading or coordinating a membership or similar program or service in a nonprofit or arts based organization.

  • Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in CRM, word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software (Outlook, MSWord, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and event ticketing software.

  • Knowledge of Mailchimp and Eventbrite preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Physical requirements include occasional standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, pushing/pulling and reaching above the shoulders and lifting of up to 25 lbs. Work will require weekends and/or evenings and frequent transportation between film and event sites.
