Position Summary

The School of Music & Theater at Portland State University seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Scenic/Lighting Design to begin September 16, 2020. The successful candidate will teach courses in stagecraft, scenic and lighting design, scene painting and other subjects within the successful candidate’s area of expertise at the undergraduate level. Other duties will be assigned to fulfill the School’s needs. The appointment will also entail service to the School and University, sustaining a continuous and cumulative record of creative/scholarly activities, and community outreach.

Primary Activity I – Instructional Minimum Qualifications

  • M.F.A. in Design or Production Management with a design focus.
  • Experience in CAD software.
  • Familiarity with theatrical design/projection design along with current industry standard creation and delivery platforms.
  • Experience teaching at the collegiate level.

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

The starting annual salary rate for this position will be $62,604. The starting annual salary rate for this position will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate.

PSU’s excellent benefits package includes 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities
