WTAE-TV, the Hearst-owned ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh, PA has an immediate opening for a creative, energetic and tech-savvy News Photographer-Editor. The job calls for someone able to capture the scene of breaking news and other news events and help tell vibrant visual stories. The candidate should be able to shoot on traditional ENG cameras as well as utilize tools such as GoPro and iPhones to tell the story. This position will regularly utilize ENG and SNG equipment as well as cellular-based live equipment to executive active and compelling live shots. This job is for a candidate who is a strong storyteller with a knack for solving problems and thinking quickly on their feet. The right person understands that the days of two or three daily news deadlines are behind us and embraces the idea that the next deadline is as soon as news happens.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Shooting and editing of vo’s, vo-sots and packages for broadcast and digital including posting videos, photos and stories to the web.
  • Safe and Efficient operation of ENG and D-SNG trucks.
  • Working with the Assignment Desk and Reporters to cover daily stories.
  • Occasionally running the Satellite Feed Center.

Experience Requirements:

  • At least one to two years of experience in a television newsroom.
  • Must have relevant computer and software experience.
  • Non-linear editing experience.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Premiere preferred.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • Carry up to 50 pounds of equipment
  • Ability to work any shift – including evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays.
  • Drive news vehicles and ENG/D-SNG trucks.
  • Candidates must have a Valid Driver’s License.
  • Vehicle Record check required.


  • Bachelor or Associate Degree in photography, journalism or related field.
  • Experience in lieu of education, especially military experience, will be considered.
  • Equivalent military training from Defense Information School (DINFOS) will be considered
