The Kids’ Media and Education (KME) department at WNET has earned a national and local reputation as a leading developer and producer of high quality television, including children’s animation, live-action specials, documentaries, and professional development series for educators, including Cyberchase , Oh Noah! , Mission US , and FILMS BYKIDS . KME is also a pioneering provider of video and interactive content that reaches audiences across the country online and on emerging platforms. Our mission is to whisk away viewers on learning journeys through engaging stories with fun-loving, relatable characters and rich educational content. Our productions have won many honors, including Emmys, Parent’s Choice Awards, Webbys, Cine Golden Eagle awards, US International Video and Film Festival awards, and the Japan Prize for Educational Media. Programs are distributed through Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) or American Public Television (APT) for national broadcast.

Description of Duties:

The Production Intern(s) will perform a variety of interactive and television production-related administrative duties including conducting research for new projects in development, reviewing animation designs, game design documents, scripts, rough cuts, game builds, and website builds, transcribing, proofreading, assisting on field shoots, assisting with the management of social media platforms, uploading and downloading content onto websites, making copies, scanning, creating electronic files, placing and picking up dub orders, and reviewing proposals from potential collaborators. Additionally, the Production Intern(s) will attend departmental staff meetings, have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with producers in the department, and gain exposure to production materials including scripts, character designs, web prototypes, rough cuts, treatments, etc.

Student’s Accountability:

On a daily basis we expect reliability, punctuality, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize.

Skills:

Preferably a college junior or above. Candidates must demonstrate responsibility and enthusiasm for learning about children’s and educational media. Candidates with an interest in the field of education and professional development are also encouraged to apply. Good research/writing skills, well-organized and tech savvy a plus.

Opportunity Profile:

Ideally, the KME Production Intern(s) will gain an overview of the process of developing educational television and content for the web and emerging platforms – from concept and fundraising through production, post-production, and delivery. The intern(s) will contribute to the success of KME projects by assisting when needed.
