Barnard College has launched the Post Baccalaureate Fellowship program, a learning and career development opportunity for graduating seniors. The Post Baccalaureate Fellowship is a one-year program (with the possibility of renewal) consisting of various placements that allow for the development of professional career skills, on-going technical and workplace learning and an opportunity to apply subject matter expertise to new technologies, digital scholarship, creative writing, etc.
Reporting to a Center director, fellowships are full time paid appointments with health benefits, including paid holiday and vacation days. Each fellow is a member of a cohort that participates in on-going professional development and learning from Beyond Barnard in collaboration with the Office of Human Resources. Under the direction of the Media Center Director, the Fellow will support the development and coordination of services and programming in the Elsie K. Media Center.

Essential Duties Summary

Duties & Responsibilities:

    1). Support the Elsie K. Sloate Media Center
  • Work closely with the Director of the Elsie K. Media Center to understand the studio reservations system and train users on using studio equipment
  • Work closely with the Director in the development and implementation of workshops on production and post-production equipment and software
  • Assist with the development and implementation of workshops for faculty and students to support curriculum
  • Consult and assist with equipment ordering
    2). Original content creation and research
  • Create media and research projects through their own initiative, with supervision and guidance from Director
  • Assist with research design and implementation of new media equipment and tools

    3). Outreach and relationships
  • Represent the Media Center in the cohort of Library Post-Baccs, supporting the collection and archiving of projects
  • Program and support events sponsored by the Media Center, such as film screenings or film festival partnerships

4). Additional fellowship responsibilities and duties as needed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills
  • Experience with video production
  • Willingness to troubleshoot, proactive problem solver

Required Qualification Summary

  • BA degree from Barnard College or Columbia University
  • Experience with Adobe Suite and other post-production software
  • Experience with HD and DSLR cameras, wired and wireless microphones, lighting, backdrops, and related production equipment
  • Experience with teaching, education, higher education, or other forms of instruction
