Job Description

The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in Syracuse University is seeking an individual to teach TRF 510 Avid Editing I on Tuesdays from 5:00-7:45 PM January 14th-February 11th, during the spring 2020 semester. (1 credit)

Course Description: This is a one-credit, five week course covering the introduction the Avid digital editing platform. Students will be introduced to Avid editing software and its application to film and television post production environments. Students are expected to attain a beginning level understanding of the software —the Media Composer interface—and the application of these practices to all forms of storytelling.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred.

Job Specific Qualifications

Qualified instructors will have a substantial background in Avid editing, and the advanced use of Avid editing software. This is an important course in understanding media management, color correction and effects.

Responsibilities

It is understood that teaching assignments may include the following:
Developing and/or updating a class syllabus according to University and departmental standards.

Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.

Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.

Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.

Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.

Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.

Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.

Collect and submit student assessment data for accreditation purposes, if applicable.

Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.

Physical Requirements

Ability to instruct the class in the assigned classroom on the days it is designated to meet.

Ability to hold office hours on campus.

Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.

Tools/Equipment

Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
