The Arthur Project ( is redefining youth mentoring. Rather than pairing children with untrained volunteers in programs that are unstructured, The Arthur Project engages Master of Social Work graduate students who are emerging clinicians to be mentors. Where most programs offer a total of 40 hours of mentoring for students in the life of the program, our students engage in up to 500 hours of mentoring per year. We also focus exclusively on middle school, as it is too often overlooked as being one of the most pivotal time periods in the life of a young person. As such, it is also vastly underinvested in.

In September of 2017, TAP successfully launched a pilot program for sixth graders within two middle schools in the Bronx. The inaugural class included 24 students and 13 mentors. In September of 2018, TAP tripled the number of participants and included sixth and seventh graders in the same two schools. Starting in the 2019 school year, our program will increase further to over 150 participants. In the coming years, TAP intends to continue to expand to other public schools in New York City and is in discussions to expand its programs to other cities throughout the U.S.

TAP recently received two significant grants totally nearly $1.5 million, enabling the organization to allocate resources to support its development and communications efforts. In partnership with Ms. Murray and Mr. Muti, the Development & Communications Director will be responsible for creating and implementing TAP’s first development and communications strategy, including the launch of a donor database and structuring a year-long communications plan. The Director will also be responsible for sustaining TAP’s existing portfolio of individual and institutional funders and growing the portfolio as TAP continues to scale. The ideal candidate will have experience growing fundraising programs, crafting development strategy, and serving as a key communication source for current and prospective donors.

Reporting to the Board President, the Director will serve as a member of TAP’s Executive team, overseeing all aspects of fundraising, communications, and donor relations. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to thrive in a high-energy, fast-paced and entrepreneurial organization. He/she will have a positive, “can-do” attitude; practice innovative thinking and will be flexible and team-oriented.

The position will be based at TAP’s school location in the Bronx at 3710 Barnes Ave and is a full-time role.
