Job Description:
The Program Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of the music education, talent development, and humanitarian programs funded by The ASCAP Foundation in fulfilment of its mission. This includes, but is not limited to, managing all scholarship, award and recognition programs; songwriting competitions; commissions; workshops and showcases; the development, implementation and execution of internal programs; the external grant process; and establishing professional relationships with individual recipients, ASCAP membership personnel and other non-profit organizations receiving Foundation grants for the purpose of program oversight.

This position contains both an external and internal component. The Program Manager identifies, seeks out, interfaces with, and serves as the primary contact: for external organizations and individuals receiving ASCAP Foundation grants; with faculty and panel members who select scholarship and award recipients; and with ASCAP Membership departments whose programs are funded by The ASCAP Foundation, and often works with the Executive Director to fulfill donor requests as they pertain to programs. The Program Manager is responsible for the implementation of all internal music education and talent development initiatives, effectively communicating the mission of The ASCAP Foundation and ensuring that all grantees and beneficiaries of the ASCAP Foundation grants comply with the mission, goals and policies of The ASCAP Foundation.

The Program Manager works with a variety of ASCAP departments to promote and raise the visibility and name recognition of The ASCAP Foundation and to ensure that ASCAP members are considered whenever possible in programs that support music creators of all ages, in all genres, all across the U.S.

The program manager increases the public awareness of the important work of The ASCAP Foundation by creating partnerships, finding opportunities and serving as a liaison with other non-profit organizations. The programs that are directed by the program manager impact millions of people throughout the country each year. By being a good steward of Foundation programs, donors are more likely to continue to support and fund programs.

Areas of responsibility/accountability:
Program Management

Oversee all aspects of The ASCAP Foundation grant process which includes:

  • Reviewing and maintaining the grant application process;
  • Soliciting and responding to funding requests throughout the year;
  • Reviewing and recommending new grantees for funding;
  • Responding to donors who have established named programs;
  • Managing the communications and grant distribution for external programs and those

created internally by The ASCAP Foundation;

  • Supervising and communicating the selection process for the annual scholarships and

awards and related programs;

  • Developing relationships with professionals at other non-profit organizations and schools;
  • Ensuring that grantee organizations are compliant through annual program reports.
  • Collecting and analyzing program report data.

Program Development

  • Enhance, expand and implement programs that have been created by The ASCAP Foundation including but not limited to: “Children Will Listen”; “Songwriters: The Next Generation” a partnership with the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; Music In the Schools in coordination with VH1 Save the Music Foundation and Alfred Publishing; Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Awards program; Morton Gould and Herb Alpert Young Composers Awards program in consultation with the ASCAP Concert Music Department; the Summer Guitar Project at the Fresh Air Fund, and all of the “named” programs.
  • Secure talent for various programs to be selected from ASCAP Foundation awardees. Based on available funding, develops new programs to support the strategic direction of the organization.
  • Engage in the creative use of technology and virtual platforms to support the Foundation’s mission.
  • Creatively facilitate the transformation of Foundation programs to enable the organization to deliver programming virtually.


  • Partner with Finance to develop and create an annual program budget.
  • Monitor the proper allocation of program funds.
  • Prepare check requests for payment of program funds.


  • Draft press releases.
  • Update and draft news articles for The ASCAP Foundation website
  • Ensure that website features and listings are accurate and that donors of new awards/scholarships are appropriately acknowledged.
  • Identify newsworthy items, acquire photographs and draft articles for The ASCAP Foundation newsletter.
  • Communicate with new donors of “named” programs as they plan the details of their initiative.

ASCAP Foundation Honors Ceremony

  • Coordinate key components of the ASCAP Foundation Annual Honors Ceremony including: securing all names, contact information and bios of all annual award and scholarship recipients; assisting with hotel and travel coordination; serving as liaison with honorees attending and participating in the event; participating in event planning meetings; recommending and communicating with performers; coordinating VIP/honoree check-in and seating.

Supervision of Interns

  • Oversee the solicitation, vetting, hiring, training and management of 2-3 ASCAP Foundation annual interns for the program area.
  • Assign and supervise their workload, brief them on office procedures and outline details of projects. Write final performance evaluation.


  • Assist in the preparation of Board presentations by providing program related data, photos, background, and creative ideas.
  • Develop collaborative, successful relationships and strategic alliances to improve operational efficiency.
  • Create and manage individual short and long-term goals as they pertain to The ASCAP Foundation.
  • Provide data and relevant information for required for grant proposals.
  • Coordinate year-end reporting to donors by providing relevant bios & photos of fund recipients.
  • Create and maintain a calendar of program activity.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
