A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required, master’s preferred. Preferably in the field of Mass Communication, Journalism, English or a related area. The desired candidate must have five or more years of job-related experience. High proficiency with Microsoft Office, digital and print content development tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress Photoshop, etc. As well as expertise with project management tools (e.g. Basecamp, Asana, Microsoft Project). The desired candidate must have relevant work experience utilizing social media platforms primarily Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram. Must have advanced knowledge of various digital communications delivery methods. Must have excellent organizational skills with strong attention to details and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Stellar writing, proofreading and editing skills; excellent interpersonal/communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Promote the University’s brand and positive public image through written and graphic communications, social media, broadcast, print and web-based formats

Act as University spokesperson as appropriate and brand ambassador

Coordinate communications from all University units to ensure consistent messaging, content and design templates and standards

Develop and implement a comprehensive, long-term and proactive University-wide communications, marketing and branding strategy consistent with the strategic goals, plans, and aspirations of the University (including appropriate metric and dashboards for the department and the University)

Ensure the quality of the University Communications’ operation by developing and maintain an effective office staff through hiring, training, and supervising graduate assistants and student employees

Work with deans, administrators, and faculty to promote a positive image of the University by gathering and placing University new stories in targeted news media at the local, state and national level

Provide timely social media performance reporting, including, but not limited to, tracking and measuring the impact of University social media

Counsel the University on issues relating to communications, marketing and media relations

Coordinate the development of the University’s crisis management plan and its timely activation and implementation

Supervise staff and ensure appropriate performance and developmental goals are identified and reviewed on a timely basis

Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends and at locations outside of the University

Contribute to the overall success of University Communications by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President and Executive Vice-President & Chief Operating Officer
