The Rutgers Filmmaking Center of the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University seeks a visionary filmmaker and invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in Filmmaking. The successful candidate will be an experienced practitioner and educator with an active record as a narrative filmmaker with a national or international reputation and a broad understanding of contemporary film practice. The Rutgers Filmmaking Center seeks to train the next generation of media professionals to be both technically adroit filmmakers and intellectually informed artists; the holder of the professorship will be a key player in realizing that vision. We are seeking a faculty member with vision and the potential for leadership who will work with the faculty and continue to cultivate a strong identity for the program. The successful candidate will have an appropriate terminal degree and extensive experience and record of professional work in filmmaking. He or she will teach appropriate aspects of film production and directing and will continue to build collaborations with faculty and staff across the university. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in the various responsibilities of running a thriving filmmaking program and will have a teaching load that is the equivalent of four courses per year in film production and directing at the undergraduate BFA level. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active career in filmmaking. Preferred start date January 20, 2020.

Minimum Education and Experience
BFA or MFA degree in filmmaking or Ph.D. in related field, with appropriate professional experience.

The Rutgers Filmmaking Center strives to offer an undergraduate program that balances practice, theory, and history of cinema. The curriculum is designed to help students discover their personal aesthetics and express themselves creatively through production-oriented classes. The filmmaking program’s pedagogy exposes students to a broad range of cinematic traditions and a wide array of concepts and through a solid grounding in film production aims to help students develop their unique artistic voice and become informed filmmakers.
