As a Writer’s Assistant Intern you may…

Provide Department Support:

  • Supporting Managing Story Editor in various story department deliverables from taking notes in meetings to writing copy
  • Participating in brainstorms with other creative team members
  • Updating scripts and other documents as needed
  • Organizing information and putting together written materials as needed
  • Writing/organizing appropriately themed operational sign copy, prop support copy, and other sign copy as needed after gaining in-depth knowledge of the land/attraction story


Provide Documentation support:

  • Working under the supervision of the Managing Story Editor – drafting and/or editing website information, press releases, merchandise descriptions, training materials, spiels and other materials as needed.
  • Maintaining the Show Information Guide based on treatments, modification of standardized Cast Member Role descriptions, and collection of “fun facts.”
  • Reconciling written work with the final designs, or in-field revisions

What you bring to the role…

  • Strong writing/editing skills in English
  • Competency in Word, PowerPoint/Keynote; and capacity to learn database and other department programs
  • Proactive attitude in finding out information
  • Great attention to detail
  • Great multitasking ability
  • Strong organizational skills, with ability to prioritize and self-manage
  • A familiarity with Disney IP and a passion for our theme parks
  • Some graphic design experience desirable but not required
  • Knowledge of Star Wars stories and characters
  • Currently enrolled as a Junior or higher, or must have graduated from an accredited college/university within the past 6 months, earning a degree in Creative Arts, Writing (playwriting, screenwriting, marketing, creative writing, journalism, film/theater) or a closely related field

Internship Eligibility:

  • At the time of application, must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Must provide full work availability
  • Must provide own transportation to/from work location
  • Must be able to provide own housing for the duration of the internship
  • Current Active Disney cast members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (for Walt Disney World cast members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland cast members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months)
  • Portfolio site is recommended – please include link to your portfolio site on your resume.


Candidates may be asked to complete a writing sample as part of the interview process.

Program Length:

  • This is a six month internship with potential for extension.
  • The approximate dates of this internship are May/June 2020 through early January 2021.
  • Interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship.
  • Candidates with immediate availability will be considered for an early start.

The Walt Disney Imagineering Story Development department is seeking an intern who will assist the Managing Story Editor on a project in a variety of ways, all while learning the craft of writing for themed environments. This position is similar to a production assistant in film or a writer’s assistant in television.

What we’re looking for…
A Writer’s Assistant Intern to work with the Managing Story Editor on a special project. This could require the candidate to attend design meetings and reviews, gain deep understanding of the stories and overall thematic intent, conduct research, and perform creative writing deliverables as needed. The right candidate will have a high level of attention to detail, multitasking ability, creative writing ability, positive energy, and the capacity to quickly adapt to new information.
