Position Overview

The Director, Production Finance will directly oversee process flow, policies and procedure and business direction related to multiple aspects of production finance for a portfolio of television projects, primarily premium scripted and animation series. This role will be responsible for preparing and maintaining detailed financial production budgets, forecasts and analysis. The role will work with Business Affairs, Physical Production and Finance to effectively manage the financial operations (including but not limited to cost reporting, cash flows, and ultimates) across the TV division.


Production / Department Support

  • Prepare and review series and pattern budgets for assigned projects in all stages of development and production including building budgets for modeling / foreign sales
  • Maintain accurate budget template for ad hoc analysis of different shooting locations
  • Analyze weekly cost reports and prepare Cost Status Reports for all assigned projects
  • Research tax incentives and prepare differentials for all potential shooting locations, including managing tax credit review, applications, and administering foreign tax advice
  • Hire / Track availability of production accountants
  • Implement policies and procedures governing all production staff
  • Audit all projects to ensure proper compliance with studio policies and procedures and local/guild regulations
  • Set-up insurance, company and banking facilities and approve credit card recipients and expenditure limits
  • Management of production funding from initial concept to final delivery. Generate and update cash flows in support of the corporate cash management processes.
  • Review general ledgers, production bibles, and trial balances for complete coding of costs
  • Track current currency exchange rates and manage currency hedging across foreign projects
  • Build accurate budgets and cash flow forecasts plus ongoing tracking of slate performance against projections
  • Review of all production-related accounting transactions
  • Track production delivery and performance in compliance with contractual requirements
  • Liaise with Bond Company
  • Work with BA for Union Agreements
  • Review ATL with BA / ATL perk comparisons
  • Acquire opinion letters
  • Manage and track insurance claims as necessary per project


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree with an emphasis on finance or accounting preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting/finance role with a studio/network/production company -or- 5-10 years as a key accountant on scripted television series
  • Scripted TV industry experience required; animation and/or unscripted experience a plus
  • Strong understanding of the film industry and production cycles
  • Knowledge of current tax incentive programs, both within the US and abroad
  • Strong knowledge of union and guild agreements, participations, residuals, and entertainment industry finance required
  • Strong capability to prioritize multiple demands and multi-task
  • Ability to read and understand legal agreements
  • Expert proficiency in Movie Magic Budgeting, and Microsoft Windows Environments
  • Excellent communication across all levels and departments within company
  • Proven effective leadership, management and supervisory skills
