With over 350 hours of in-house output a year, BBC Drama Production is making some of the most original, diverse and highly acclaimed television. These range from continuing drama such as Casualty, EastEnders, Holby City, and Doctors to series and serials such as Silent Witness, Luther and Our Girl, to name just a few!
EastEnders is the multi award winning soap broadcast four times a week on BBC ONE. It currently ranks as one of the most watched TV dramas in the UK tackling many controversial and taboo issues previously unseen on television in the UK. Through great writing and attention to detail the show manages to successfully balance gritty realism with high drama and entertainment to keep its millions of dedicated viewers coming back for more, on-screen and on-line, every week.
The role will report to the Social Media Manager and work within the Social Media team. They will be required to deliver cross platform expertise and produce video content for the EastEnders social media platforms.
The postholder will be responsible for the following duties:
Originates and contributes to the production of high quality and compelling video content, for social media platforms, and emerging platforms
Contributes to the generation and development of new ideas for the strand, genre, brand, story or product which can be realised used existing tools and resources; builds on good ideas from counterparts and more junior members of the team.
To post content on Social Media platforms live, and around TX.
Ensures all content is thoroughly researched and accurate, meets BBC editorial standards and is in line with editorial strategy.
Works as part of the team to ensure editorial content meets audience/user needs and is consistent with the agreed editorial style and tone.
Builds brand awareness through social media networks.
Ensures compliance and music clearance process is followed and that content is accurate, consistent and in line with the Editorial Guidelines.
As agreed with the Social Media Manager, and within contractual weekly hours, work out-of-hours shifts (evenings and weekends) to ensure that social activity supports programme priorities.
As required, takes responsibility for planning and managing the delivery of video projects.
Delivers to tight deadlines and changing requirements whilst maintaining the highest journalistic standards.
Prepares and updates content to appropriate platforms and products using available publishing tools.
Conducts research and selects relevant content and ensures that appropriate copyright clearances and compliance sign-off are acquired and documented.
Understands and adheres to Health and Safety policy and risk management to ensure a safe working environment within the BBC and outside.
Communicates with relevant members of the production team and cast to ensure all departments are across filming for social media.
Establishes and develops relationships with partners, cast and crew within Continuing Drama, across the BBC and outside.
Provides support and advice on online content and platforms to BBC colleagues and external suppliers.
The Ideal Candidate
People working on EastEnders are a talented, experienced and creative bunch. To join them and make this programme the most talked about on the channel, it’s really important you have the necessary skills we’re looking for. You should have:
A passion for Continuing Drama and social media, and how to use the latter to build brand awareness and engage with our audiences.
Demonstrable experience self-shooting (Canon 5D) and video editing (Final Cut Pro) content for online use.
Excellent video/image editing skills; attention to detail with good editorial judgement, accuracy and sensitivity.
Strong journalistic and writing skills and attention to detail with good editorial judgement, accuracy and sensitivity.
Strong filming and editing skills in order to creative distinctive visual material to promote our brands.
A clear understanding of the needs and profile of the target audience and the ability to translate these into imaginative and compelling content ideas.
Strong web and computer literacy. Strong experience of using social media. Knowledge of the media landscape and emerging technologies.
Experience of providing cross platform support and guidance to colleagues. Experience of influencing people who are not direct reports
Effective planning and organising skills. Ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time, prioritising, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities.
Ability to research accurately when producing original content in keeping with editorial brief.
An understanding of the TV production process.
Effective team-working and interpersonal skills. Ability to work alone as well as in a team. Maintaining good working relationships with colleagues and contributors.
Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of BBC Editorial guidelines.
Working knowledge of BBC practices and policies such as diversity, equal opportunities and health and safety.
