Assistant Commissioner- BBC Films – BBC – London W1A

This is an opportunity to join BBC Films within the Content division in the BBC. We are always looking to find new ways to connect and collaborate with our audiences to deliver a unique voice on subjects that matter to them, but we are facing big competition in the saturated media landscape. BBC Films is the feature filmmaking arm of the BBC. At the forefront of British independent film, BBC Films commissions around 15 films a year. BBC Films aims to make bold, distinctive and fearless films with range and ambition. We find, nurture and develop new talent and collaborate with world-class writers, directors and producers.
You will work closely with a Manager and/or Head of Department on a wide range of projects in development, and with colleagues in the wider BBC Films team across all of BBC Films activity. You will track new projects and seeking out and engage with exciting new talent. You will produce key editorial script notes to an extremely high standard and in a timely fashion. You will be responsible for following projects through development into production, attending screenings or watching cuts online and providing cut notes to a high standard. You will liaise across the channels and with external partners on marketing material (and other key elements) and provide marketing support generally for BBC Films where required.
Are you the right candidate?
We are looking for someone with a thorough understanding of the UK Film industry and knowledge of other creative industries, such as theatre, games and publishing. You will have an extensive network of contacts in the UK and abroad within this area. You will have sound editorial judgement and will also have production experience. The ideal candidate will be someone who has a strong passion both in terms of output and talent on and off screen and be able to spot new opportunities. You will have a proven track record of identifying, developing and promoting new talent. You will have a good understanding of the domestic and international market, and the ability to identify content and talent that can resonate with UK audiences. You will have a good understanding of the changing nature of audience behaviour in relation to digital content knowledge as you will ensure that new forms of content will be considered as part of the commissioning process.
