Government Reporters are responsible for covering all student government senate meetings, including B&A meetings and any other relevant SG meetings, as well as relevant BOG and BOT meetings. In addition, government reporters may also be expected to cover additional news, features and sports stories as assigned by the appropriate editor.
Cover a beat and/or follow up on future story leads as assigned.
Learn/use basics of reporting, writing, editing, photography, videography, audio production
Contribute story ideas to the editor
Must complete for weekly payment:
Complete at least two publishable, compelling, timely multimedia stories/photo galleries/video clips per week for each paid reporter and one for each volunteer, including at least one face-to-face edit for each story.
Go over each assignment with the editor, including sources and records that should be secured; follow-up with the editor after crucial reporting is done to give the story in a sentence; edit first draft with editor; produce subsequent drafts as needed.
Participate in the Emergency Breaking News on-call team if you are a paid Breaking News reporter, a paid videographer, or a paid photographer
Attend weekly news meeting unless excused
Complete basic news training classes when needed
