The E.W. Scripps Company is seeking a Payroll Administrator II. This person should possess strong customer service and problem-solving skills to administer payroll services and HR administration in an outsourced environment. The role is responsible for the day-to-day activities for timekeeping, processing and correcting time records and submitting items for payment. The administrator also acts as a liaison between the outside service provider and HR business partners across the company. This position is located in Cincinnati, OH.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide support by providing reporting and other HR/Payroll related tasks as required
  • Resolve payroll and timekeeping issues and proactively handle work related issues
  • Process various forms, including but not limited to, manual check requests, stop payments, check reversals, etc., as necessary
  • Manage the review of bi-weekly timecards for assigned stations
  • Works with outside service provider and internal stakeholders to ensure all payroll policies and payroll-related controls are being followed
  • Assist with Federal, State, and Local payroll tax issues and the year-end process (review of W-2 forms prepared by outside service provider)
  • Assist with the payroll activities for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures as required
  • Manage the submission of one-time payments (commissions, bonus, relocation, etc.)
  • Remit bi-weekly payroll deductions such as charitable deductions, gym memberships, transportation passes, etc. via payroll batch and remit for payment
  • Communicate payroll issues to the internal Scripps team and the outside service provider as required
  • Refer employees to the Employee Service Center for resolution of payroll issues
  • Assist in the creation and processing of standard and ad-hoc reports containing HR and payroll related information in order to meet internal and external reporting requirements and operational reviews
  • Participate in any audit or controls and compliance activities as necessary

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in business, accounting, or human resources preferred, but not required
  • Minimum three years of payroll experience preferred
  • Previous experience working with an outside payroll provider preferred
  • Experience with HR systems

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational and customer consulting skills; able to interpret policies and procedures and work closely with HR business partners and outsourcing contacts to ensure those policies and/or procedures are carried out appropriately
  • Ability to resolve both technical and process-related questions
  • Ability to develop good relationships via phone as well as in person
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel (must be able to do basic formulas and willing to learn additional, if needed) and the other Microsoft Office products
