Description

Under general supervision, performs at the fully functional level, operating video cameras and related equipment to tape images and sound of events and program segments for airing on the City’s cable channels, and social media sites and performs related duties as required.Drives to field locations for video shoots and sets up lighting and audio equipment for videotaping and live streaming sessionsDrives to field locations for video shoots and sets up lighting and audio equipment for videotaping and live streaming sessions

  • Drives to field locations for video shoots and sets up lighting and audio equipment for videotaping and live streaming sessions
  • Collaborates with Supervising Videographer and producers on subject matter to capture on video
  • Determines appropriate camera angles, lighting and camera shots and shoots video footage
  • Videotapes city scenes (e.g., the lakefront, cultural institutions, residential neighborhoods, industrial, financial and commercial centers) for editing into a program
  • Provides direction and assistance on location for productions
  • Operates cameras and sets up studio lighting as required
  • Live streams video to social media sites, including Facebook Live and Periscope

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree or 60 credit hours in Television Production, Film/Video or Communications or a directly related field plus one year of work experience as a video camera operator, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Selection Criteria

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the interview will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

  • Previous experience live streaming video to social media sites, including Facebook Live and Periscope.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Previous professional production experience
  • Previous experience editing and using video editing software
  • Previous experience operating professional video camera, audio, and lighting equipment

Licensure, Certification or Other Qualifications

  • A valid State of Illinois driver’s license is required

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • General office environment
  • Exposure to cramped, noisy, dirty or unpleasant surroundings
  • Exposure to inclement weather conditions

Evaluation
