The Assistant Director of Live Event Production assists with the production of live sporting events for Northwestern’s in-venue video board and Big Ten Network StudentU streams. This position is responsible for recruiting and training student and freelance workers for the execution of live event productions, and produces original creative video content for department’s video boards and social media channels to engage fans, and promote and increase brand awareness of Northwestern’s athletic programs.Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA.
Note: Ability to work a non-traditional schedule, often including evenings, weekends and some travel as required.
Plans, strategizes and executes the production of live sporting events for Northwestern’s in-venue video boards and Big Ten Network StudentU streams.
Assists in control room during live productions, with responsibilities including directing, technical directing, and operation of replay and graphics machines.
Produces original creative video content for Northwestern’s stadium video boards and social media channels. Conceptualize, shoot, edit, produce and distribute videos for various platforms.
Staffs, recruits and trains students and other temporary workers for BTN StudentU streams and Northwestern live events.
Collaborates with other units within external affairs department, including marketing and athletic communications, to plan and execute content that meets department goals and objectives.
Shoots Electronic News Gathering (ENG) style video at games and athletic department events for use in video production and online distribution. Travels with teams to selected road contests to capture behind-the-scenes access of Northwestern programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in video/film production, communications or related field or successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
Minimum 1 year of professional experience with live sporting event production and technical understanding of required equipment (including Ross Carbonite, XPression & Mira). Experience with directing, technical directing and overseeing game day staff preferred.
Minimum 1 year of professional experience with video production, including shooting, editing and post-production.
Experience with video post-production and graphic creation software, including Adobe Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop.
Experience with shooting of sports games, highlights and interviews.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work efficiently on short deadlines, including balancing multiple projects simultaneously.
