Summary

The VDP reports to the Content Manager and works with the content team to develop consistently effective video content to promote the Perkins brand, both internally and externally. The VDP produces content in collaboration with the marketing and web teams, as well as in collaboration with teams across Perkins.

This individual should have the ability to develop video content in a short turnaround that can be adapted for multiple digital channels. In particular, s/he should be adept at creating short video content appropriate for Perkins’ social, web and direct communications. Occasionally educational video production will be necessary. Strong visual storytelling, excellent time management, project planning and writing skills are necessary for success.

Experience producing video for social channels, an understanding of what appeals to online audiences are required, and the ability to run livestream events is highly desirable.

The VDP is expected to become fluent in Perkins’ operations and strategic priorities, including all programs and the portfolio of products and services. Comfort working with children and young adults of a variety of ages, special needs and physical capabilities is required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identify the most effective storytelling opportunities in coordination with the content team, producing engaging stories that inform and inspire viewers about Perkins’ work, mission, vision, goals, achievements and challenges.
  • Manage video needs from ideation to final product, which includes project management, storyboarding, scriptwriting, and preparation of assets.
  • Collaborate with marketing team and across Perkins teams as appropriate to ensure that assets are aligned with Perkins’ strategic priorities, channeled to optimize audience reach and inspire desired audience actions, with measurable goals for success whenever possible.
  • Conduct interviews with educators, staff, parents, students, donors, partners and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate with Perkins staff regularly to stay informed of current work, projects and initiatives, and share this knowledge with the communications team. Also generate story ideas and build relationships across the organization to encourage more sharing and communication.
  • Occasional weekend and evening hours are required to cover events.
  • Experience with motion graphics and animation a plus.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to create social-channel-directed short video, longer-form video (3-4 minutes with high production value), and intermediate length video for social and web use.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, take initiative and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong interview skills, the ability to write a clear and compelling creative brief and execute that brief according to schedule and budget expectations
  • Positive attitude, professionalism, flexibility; genuine interest in Perkins’ mission
  • Willingness to operate collaboratively as a member of a team and across teams, ability to take initiative and work independently as appropriate
  • Occasional physical exertion including lifting of objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Moving necessary video equipment to shoot locations on and off campus (with wheeled cart and assistance as needed).

Applicable skills:

Extensive video production (working with Canon EOS 5D Mark III & IV) and editing experience (using Adobe Premiere Pro), including scripting, drafting creative briefs, leading music selection and licensing required.

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Three or more years of video production experience in nonprofit, advocacy or similar setting
