WORLD is growing it’s production, acquisitions and distribution unit and is hiring a for the newly created position of Director of Acquisitions and Distribution Strategies . This position will help lead the expansion of acquisitions and distribution of WORLD’s original content to additional platforms here in the U.S, around the world. Duties will include helping to broker new co-productions and acquisitions, leading efforts to expand the distribution of content to additional platforms. Will also work with WORLD’s Executive Producer nurture and grow a diverse group of content partners and contributor organizations, festivals who believe in WORLD Channels mission and regular work in collaboration to source content from independent producers. This new position is essential to executing on WORLD’s vision of amplifying under respected voices and storytellers in public media.


  • Commission and acquire new and innovative content for WORLD’s original series from independent filmmakers from around the world.
  • Negotiate new distribution innovative distribution partnerships for WORLD’s original content in the U.S. and around the world. This might include emerging digital platforms, festivals other performance-based opportunities that might help expand the WORLD’s brand to a new and diverse audience.
  • Explore licensing ‘bundles’ of WORLD content across multiple platforms in partnership with PBS Distribution (PBSd) Work to create a business model for WORLD Channel that could generate new revenue to the WORLD Channel project and the independent filmmakers we partner with.
  • Manage WORLD Channel relationship with PBSd or other sales agents who are contracted to help expand WORLD’s distribution to traditional HV, VOD platforms.
  • Experiment with expanding direct digital distribution models to editorial like-minded platforms to include public radio and other independent public media outlets beyond PBS television stations; (eg LINK TV local newspapers etc )
  • Work with PBS and WORLD subscribing stations to distribute a select number of assets for use on PBS Passport.
  • Know and Manage WORLD diverse in-rights content inventory to best leverage new distribution opportunities that will come up in the future.


  • Must be able to work cooperatively with artists and business colleagues in a fast-paced production-focused environment.
  • Ability to lead team in person and virtually.
  • Must have a positive attitude and excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent reading, writing, verbal, organizational, negotiating, communication and analytical skills required.
  • Demonstrated writing ability and the proven capability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Must have experience with Macintosh operating system, Word and Excel, and document comparison programs and general love of new technologies.


Bachelor’s Degree required. Preferred MFA or MA in film of MBA Business. Foreign Language (Eg. Spanish, Mandarin, French ). A minimum of 5-7 years’related acquisition and distribution experience. A strong journalism background with experience working in production at some level. Experience managing and trafficking projects from acquisition to shutdown.
