KXAN News is looking for an investigative producer & digital reporter to join an expanding newsroom of digital and broadcast journalists, as well as an investigative team recognized nationally with honors such as the IRE Award, Walter Cronkite Award, duPont Award, SPJ First Amendment Award and the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas Award. KXAN is Austin`s dominant multimedia station focused on in-depth and investigative journalism. This producer/reporter will work independently, as well as in teams, to enterprise, research and develop stories.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Researching, developing and/or writing in-depth and investigative news stories for the station`s platforms.
Contributing to newsgathering for the day`s big stories and breaking news.
Posting & updating news content on websites, blogs, and social media channels.
Producing special digital projects.
Developing sources and content areas of expertise.
Collaborating with the investigative and digital teams to create visually rich, value-added content such as charts, graphs, photos, and videos.
Other duties as assigned.
3 years of investigative journalism experience preferred.
Strong digital/print writing skills and a journalism degree.
Knowledge of CMS workflow and digital storytelling tools (Google documents, Tableau, data analysis).
Experience executing the FOIA process.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
The Investigative Producer and Digital Reporter must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the News Reporter must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
