The Southern Poverty Law Center seeks a highly-skilled Media Director with a proven track record of success leading public education and communications campaigns for legal, legislative, public policy and/or government entities.
Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, the Media Director will lead a team of nearly two-dozen communication professionals working to elevate the organization’s legal, legislative, and programmatic work, including issue areas focused on hate and extremism, immigrant rights, criminal justice reform, economic justice, children’s rights and voting rights.
The Media Director will work collaboratively with directors across the Communications and Creative departments and colleagues in legal and programs to develop comprehensive public relations campaigns and leverage strategic communications tactics to help shape public discourse and bring victories to the communities that the organizations serves.
The incumbent must be able to juggle multiple projects, manage an earned media team working on hundreds of initiatives at any given time and collaborate effectively with team members at all levels of the organization in a fast-paced environment.
