The Ideal Candidate for the Director of Development, Film has a strong desire to help execute our mission to unify the Black world through meaningful and captivating content on its digital platform (ABS). The Director of Development/Film is responsible for the creation and cultivation of DDM’s development slate to include writers, searches, partnership identification and cultivation, co-development of initial concepts and pitch decks, feedback on all creative submitted by creators and partners, franchise plan creation, etc.

To be successful in this role you must demonstrate the below skills and meet the minimum qualifications:

  • Create and maintain strong agency relationships, strong network of talent, directors and writers.
  • Build rapport and maintain relationships with production companies in various key markets
  • Solicit appropriate development projects and evaluate new submissions, providing detailed coverage and/or script notes as needed
  • Identify and secure new talent for projects in development.
  • Ensure a consistent level of quality is achieved and maintained on all creative fronts.
  • Leverage existing relationships within entertainment industry and emerging digital distribution platforms to help distribution efforts.
  • Sources possible materials books, stories and scripts for consideration in future film projects.
  • Build, develop and implement long term strategies for film division to endure continued growth
  • Provide research and analysis upon request on film entertainment industry, marketing and development trends, etc
  • Track and report the successful progression of development projects
  • Ensure the vision of DDM film content aligns with the company-wide goals


  • BA or BS degree from an accredited university, preferably in Film Production, Screenwriting, Business, or Marketing, or equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in the film industry specific to developing commercially viable films
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain extensive and productive relationships with various producers, directors, writers, agents, talent, and the creative community in general
  • Must be able to independently supervise the development of a project from treatment through post production
  • Track record of working effectively with colleagues, and superiors, with a special emphasis on communicating creative goals effectively.
  • Must demonstrate a passion for media, entertainment and development of content that resonates with Black people throughout the diaspora
  • Candidate must be willing to travel as needed

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $120,000.00 – $130,000.00 per year

COVID-19 considerations:
In response to COVID-19, The Director of Development, Film position is currently remote. However, if hired you will be expected to relocate to DDM’s headquarters in Atlanta, GA in the future. An appropriate notice will be provided.
