Purpose of Position

Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.

Why does the job exist?

Responsible for generating and editing magazine content consistent with the mission of the magazine, which is to report on the art, culture, and history of the Southwest as reflected in the exhibits, public programs and scholarship of the departments four Santa Fe Museums – New Mexico History Museum/Palace of the Governors, Museum of International Folk Art, Museum of Indian Arts and Culture/Laboratory of Anthropology, and New Mexico Museum of Art, its seven state historic sites, and the office of Archaeological Studies, which collects and shares information about prehistoric and historic locations across the state. This position will be responsible for working in a magazine environment working with writers, photographers and graphic design staff to produce magazine type publications, also for promoting and/r publishing in an on line environment. This position will also be responsible for maintaining, updating, and distribution of Editorial Content Lists, and Editorial Deadlines.

How does it get done?

Position will acquire content for El Palacio magazine. Will manage El Palacio editorial process. Distribute manuscripts to copy editors and produce and publish El Palacio magazine. Responsible for creating promotional plan for issue and will promote and publish the magazine on-line.

Who are the customers?

Readers, scholars and Museum of New Mexico Foundation members.

Ideal Candidate

Preferred candidate will have a Masters degree in Creative Writing, English, or Journalism.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in any field and two (2) years of experience in print media publishing to include writing and/or editing. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver¿s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Office setting, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer usage with extended periods of sitting.
