The NMHU Media Arts & Technology Department invites applications for a full-time, assistant/associate tenure-track professor in Media Arts beginning August 19, 2020. Teaching duties include both graduate and undergraduate courses in Media Arts. We seek applications from candidates working at the intersection of creative production, cultural awareness, and technology. A successful candidate situates their practice within theoretical and cultural approaches to their teaching and research. The candidate should be well versed in media history and theory, and will be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in a diverse interdisciplinary Media Arts & Technology program that emphasizes convergent technology skills used in digital storytelling along with industry-standard production. We seek candidates whose teaching focuses on the application of digital media practices, particularly video production, installation, as well as courses in the successful candidate’s area of specialization. Experience in areas studio photography, projection mapping, responsive video is helpful.

The review of applications will begin February, 2020, and continue until the position is filled. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, a link to a creative portfolio of at least 5 media projects for which the applicant served in a key creative capacity (i.e. director, cinematographer, designer, producer).

For evidence of teaching effectiveness, include contact information for three professional references and an unofficial graduate transcript (finalists will need to provide official transcripts). Candidates should describe in their cover letter how their teaching and scholarship will support the university’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, as well as their ability to work effectively with students across a wide range of identities and backgrounds.

Duties and Responsibilities

The position requires a 24 credit hour per year teaching load, student advisement, and university service is expected. The candidate will participate in curriculum development, and should have the ability to administer both graduate and undergraduate curriculum and a willingness to engage with students beyond class time.

Minimum Qualifications

Interested applicants should hold an MFA in Film, Video, Photography, Media, or related field, and have a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience. Some professional experience is preferred. Applicants should feel comfortable with all levels of digital video production, from beginner to advanced. Applicants must be comfortable with industry standard video, audio & effects software.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional areas of focus, such as experimental video, projection mapping, multiscreen installation, fine art photography, traditional or experimental photography are encouraged.

Some professional experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Applicants should feel comfortable with all levels of digital video production, from beginner to advanced. Applicants must be comfortable with industry standard audio production, photo and video editing software. The candidate may teach such classes as HD Cinema, Video Effects, Photography courses, Audio for Media Arts, History of Motion Pictures, and other classes in the future.
